Oscar Nominees

I haven't posted in a while, with the new semester and all. BUT today the Nominees for the 2009 Oscars were announced. You can check it out here.

Cate Blanchett not being nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role is probably the worst omission from the list.

I still have to check out many a movie before the actual Oscar date. Uh oh.

There's a lot to be said for reasons why The Dark Knight wasn't nominated for Best Picture. I'm not too upset about it, but I think it would have been nice to have included it - not just because of Heath Ledger, but because it really was an extraordinary action/comic book film. It had so much substance, which is often lacking in so many other movies in its category. The acting, directing, and cinematography were all fantastic. But does it deserve to be included in the Best Picture category of the Oscars? I could argue both ways. It was included in Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography. And I am very okay with that.

I expected to see The Wrestler included a little more, but other movies seemed to have trumped it. I'm really excited to see that. MICKEY ROURKE, HOLLA BACK.
