For a while, I didn't like Tilda Swinton.
Only due to the fact that she won the Academy Award for Best Actress (for her role in Michael Clayton) over Cate Blanchett's portrayal of Jude (well ... Bob Dylan) in I'm Not There. I never saw Michael Clayton, so I guess I can't really speak about her role in that, but I was so taken with Cate Blanchett, as I normally am, that I was pissed she didn't win. It really was a remarkable job. And damn. Hot. But, more on that movie on another day.
After seeing Swinton in two films recently, I can say I do like her. She's interesting.
Her role in Burn After Reading was fierce, but not over-the-top like it could have been, and beautifully acted. As was her performance in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (which I don't need to go on about any more, even though I could ... especially after seeing it again last night).
She has a presence that is elegant and unpossessing in a way I imagine early movie stars were.
Maybe I should see Michael Clayton, after all.

To mention a movie that should probably not be mentioned in a classy movie blog, I will bring up The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, the first movie in the Chronicles of Narnia series. Ok, this is basically probably more a movie for younger people, even though it does have sort of an epic battle scene. It's like Lord of the Rings Lite. Anyway, Ms. Tilda is in this movie and she is HORRIFYING. Her make-up is amazing - probably the best being that they make the icicles on her head slowly melt away as Narnia heats up (hubba hubba). This movie also uses a lot of animation, but it's pretty decent quality, unlike other fantasy movies (see: any Brendan Fraser movie of the last 10 years). Also, James McAvoy is in it, which is total street cred.
Annnnd, I probably just went on a little too long about this movie.
Hahaha, I didn't know you were into The Lion, The Witch, and The Wadrobe, Kate. I heard she played a terrific White Witch, but I never saw that, either. I read all the books in the series when I was younger, and I liked the original cartoon version of the same movie, so I have this block of not wanting to taint fond childhood memories with a new version. But that makes me sound like an 80 year old, so I should probably make an effort.
I really like that you said "it's like Lord of the Rings Lite." You're just letting your love for all things fantasy shine through, aren't you?
hahaha, my secret is out. i actually usually hate fantasy, but the first installment of Chronicles of Narnia was enjoyable.
And I have the DVD if you want to borrow it.
Tilda will make your skin crawl a little.
